중국에선 중추절을 앞두고 대목을 맞은(
have a rush of orders) 신종 비즈니스가 있다. 이른바(
so-called) '부모님 방문 서비스'다. 피치 못할 사정으로(
for some unavoidable reasons) 찾아뵙지 못하는 자식들을 대신해(
on their behalf) 수고비를 받고 대리 방문해주는 서비스다.
이 신종 사업은 7월 1일 '노인권익보호법(
Law on Protection of the Rights and Interests of the Elderly)'이 발효되면서(
enter into effect) 생겨났다(
crop up). 틈새시장을 공략한(
target a niche market) 것이다.
새 법은 부모를 정기적으로 방문하도록 규정하고, 이를 어길(
infringe the regulations) 경우 고발 조치하거나(
take prosecution) 벌금형을 선고받도록(
be sentenced to a fine) 하고 있다. 말하자면(
so to speak) 강제적인 '효도법'(
a compulsory 'filial piety law')이다.
중국은 인구 노령화라는 사회적 난제에 봉착해 있다(
face a social conundrum). 2053년에는 노령 인구가 전체의 35%인 4억8700만명에 달할 것으로 전망된다. 노령화 인구 비율(
the ratio of the aging population)은 기대 수명 증가와 한 자녀 정책 탓에(
due to the increase in life expectancy and one-child policy) 갈수록 커지고 있다. 이런 와중에 시장 개혁의 결과로(
as a result of market reforms) 대가족 붕괴가 야기되면서(
give rise to the breakup of extended family) 노인들이 버림받고 있다(
go by the wayside).
